"Shiki no Uta" (Song of the Four Seasons/Traveler's Melancholy), a song widely known for its opening line "Those who love spring...", was written and composed by Toyohisa Araki. It depicts the changing seasons by drawing parallels between them and the warm personalities of those close to the listener. The bright and catchy melody that everyone wants to hum along to is the reason why it continues to be loved across generations.
The second song is "Ryoshu" (Traveler's Melancholy), a children's song with Japanese lyrics written by Kyūkei Indō during the Meiji era, set to an American melody. It quietly sings of the loneliness and sadness of a traveler longing for their distant hometown and loved ones. The sense of loneliness that intensifies as autumn deepens, combined with the beautiful yet melancholic melody, makes this a song that deeply touches the hearts of Japanese people.
