How to care for Orpheus
Music Box Care and Maintenance Guide
To ensure you can enjoy its precious melodies for many years to come,
we provide instructions for daily handling and maintenance.
Avoid using the music box in direct sunlight or in high-temperature, high-humidity environments. This can cause discoloration and deformation of the wooden casing, changes in tone, and rust on metal parts.
If you feel any resistance when winding the spring, stop immediately. Over-winding can stress the internal mechanism and lead to damage.
After playing, do not leave the mainspring partially wound. Play the music box until the end, or minimize any remaining winding. Leaving it wound for a long time can put stress on the components.
When stopping the music box, try to stop it as much as possible between the end and the beginning of a song (where there are no pins). Stopping when a pin is touching a comb tooth can lead to deterioration of sound quality, deformation, or wear of parts.
Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the music box yourself. This may lead to malfunction or injury.
Gently wipe in circular motions with a soft cloth (such as a glasses cleaning cloth or microfiber). This alone is sufficient to remove fingerprints and light dirt.
Never use detergents or alcohol. This may cause the wood finish to peel or lose its luster.
Wring out a lightly dampened cloth very well and ensure no moisture is left behind. Excessive moisture can cause the wood to warp or metal parts to rust.
Be careful not to rub delicate inlay work too hard. Dust can be safely removed with a soft brush or blower.
The ideal humidity is 40-60%. Avoid dryness in winter and high humidity during the rainy season by using a dehumidifier or humidity regulator.
Wind the spring lightly and play the music box a few times a year to prevent internal components from seizing up.
Do not force the mainspring. Please consult the retailer or our store. Never attempt to disassemble or oil the mechanism yourself.
After 5-10 years of use, please request maintenance such as internal cleaning and re-greasing. Regular inspections are key to preserving the sound quality for a long time.
